RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program)
The RSVP , one of the largest volunteer efforts in the nation, is a national non-profit organization based on the belief that older people are one of our nation's most valuable resources. RSVP provides the stimulus for person's age 55 and older to volunteer their services through a variety of community opportunities. RSVP project links the skills of the volunteers with identified community needs. Volunteers determine how many hours a week they can serve, each volunteer receives accident, personal liability, and excess automobile insurance, as well as community recognition.
Each year more than 460,000 older Americans age 55 and over provide community service through more than 760 locally sponsored RSVP projects. The amount of service can vary from a few hours a month to almost full-time, with the average hours of service at least eleven hours a week. Volunteers make an impact; they have the experience, know-how, and wisdom to make a difference, answer the call of their neighbors in need, and help solve problems in their communities.
RSVP volunteers who serve through non-profit and public organizations, organize neighborhood watch programs, tutor, mentor children, assist at health clinics, Habitat Housing, Homeland Security, and other multi-faceted tasks. Today's older adults are busy, productive people. After retirement, many older people use their experience to volunteer. The RSVP volunteers want to keep active in ways that make a difference for those in need.
